Directions for: The Early Bird Grilled Cheese
Ingredients
4 slices bacon
3 slices challah bread, sliced 3/4-inch thick
6 eggs
1 cups heavy cream
tsp pure vanilla extract
1 Tbsp honey
tsp kosher salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
6 slices Cheddar cheese
Maple syrup
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
2. Lay bacon on baking sheet and cook for 10-15 minutes. Remove and place on paper towel.
3. Preheat griddle pan to 350F. Take a 2-inch round cutter and cut out a circle in the centre of one slice of challah bread. In a medium bowl whisk together 3 eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, honey, and salt. Dredge the two whole pieces of challah bread through the mixture and place onto the greased griddle pan. Then repeat with the bread with the hole. Pour a small amount of oil into the hole and crack 1 egg into it. Dont move or flip until the egg starts turning white. Then you can flip all the bread and cook the other side.
4. Heat a frying pan to medium and fry the remaining two eggs. Remove from heat and leave to the side.
5. To assemble, begin with a slice of challah bread. Next add two pieces of bacon, a fried egg, and two slices of cheese. Then add another slice of challah bread, two pieces of bacon, a fried egg, and two slices of cheese. Top with the challah bread that has the egg in the centre. Place in the oven and remove when the cheese is melted. Garnish with shredded cheddar and maple syrup.
